Feed + Grow + Manage Deer Year Round

If you’re like most hunters, you spend the majority of your time and money planning for the one chance you have to bag a big buck each year.

There’s a better way!

Keep reading and watch the video to find out how to easily manage deer by attracting them to your property, feeding them, and then having fun watching them grow. Technically, deer management is a type of wildlife management that controls the population in a healthy way and maintains the integrity of the breed. If you are like me, you want to use meat harvested during hunting season to feed the family!

But this past deer season was different for me.

I wasn’t interested in actually hunting for THIS reason. Taking this year off of hunting season after losing our son ended up giving me another gift (thanks, Blake).

I discovered how fun it is to manage deer, not just hunt them. And now, it’s past deer season and I’m still finding joy attracting them to the property to simply feed them. Other wildlife is showing up too and we’ve enjoyed seeing what shows up on the trail cam!

MANAGING DEER THE EASY WAY

A lot of hunters put corn out in the feeders for their deer during deer season so the deer has something to eat. I’ve decided to feed them easily year-round (and a few others things) with the help of my deer feeder.

I’m setting up the feeder in a little secluded food plot on the backside of the big field. You might recognize it from other videos. I’ll be setting the timer to experiment with how long I want it to run. I can enjoy watching them grow by viewing the footage from my browning trail cam weekly.

HOW TO ATTRACT DEER TO YOUR PROPERTY

So now that hunting season is over, I’m going the feed deer. That way, they’ll continue to eat and they won’t have to really go out to try to scrounge around for food. Today, I’m showing how I’m using the deer feeder in a particular location.

I’m gonna put red the whole corn, and some kind of protein, today’s it’s called all stock. It’s 13% protein. That way that the deer will be able to continue to eat, and they won’t have to really go out to try to salvage or scrounge around for food.

When the feeder’s going, I’m gonna put my trail camera nearby on a tree I’ve been using for a while. I’m just gonna leave it for about a week, come back and check it again.

Then I’ll give you an update!

HOW TO MANAGE DEER FAQs

How much land do you need to manage deer?

You can manage deer on any size acreage. It depends on what you’d like to accomplish. It’s helpful with small acreage to be on the same sheet of music with adjoining landowners to ensure that certain deer are allowed to grow into large bucks.

Can you manage deer on small acreage?

Absolutely. Any amount of land is a plus so that you can manage the land in the way you see fit. You can also harvest deer as you choose. Of course, the downside of super small acreage is when deer roam away from your property. The key is attracting them year-round so they want to stay put as much as possible on your land.

What do deer like to eat the most?

They love nuts, berries, corn, and other proteins.

What should you not feed deer?

It’s said that hay and table scraps are not good for them.

If you guys do anything, something similar to this, let me know. Especially if you think it works better than what I’m trying to do. I’d love to hear what you are doing to manage deer. Let me know in the comments below.
