FAQs about Honey Bun Cake

Here are the most popular questions when it comes to baking this year-round easy dessert.

What is honey bun icing made of?

My honey bun icing is a simple glaze that mimics what you find covering glazed donuts and southern cakes like pound cake. There are only two ingredients: confectioners sugar and milk.

Can I use another kind of milk besides buttermilk?

I honestly haven’t tried other kinds of milk, but I rarely keep buttermilk on hand myself. Therefore, I use an easy buttermilk DIY, aka, a substitute. I simply pour one Tablespoon of white distilled vinegar (I also keep this on hand) into a measuring cup, and then fill it with whole milk to one cup measurement.

Can I use real butter instead of margarine?

I haven’t tried that but I’m sure the difference would not be easily noticed. Everything is better with real butter, so I’m sure it’s even tastier.

Is this similar to the Pioneer Woman honey bun cake?

I have no idea – haven’t tried her recipe. Most people use sour cream but this is a honey bun cake recipe without sour cream, but rather a honey bun cake with buttermilk and without cake mix. I challenge you to try both recipes and report back to us which one is better! 🙂

HOME & GARDEN VLOG

Along with this simple recipe this week, I added home and garden vlog content as well. I’ll always include timestamps for just the recipe in case that’s all you want. You’ll find all helpful links to things mentioned/shown in the entire video in the YouTube video’s description AND in the paragraph below…..

YOU MIGHT NEED

If you watched the homemade cake video tutorial, you noticed that there are simple basic ingredients and supplies needed for this recipe. I’m a definite minimalist when it comes to kitchen supplies, but I can’t do with my favorite mixer, pan, china, potholders, and measuring aids.

I’m excited about my new fan in the colonial country house update with its cool vintage bulbs, and the lights, trellis, jasmine, and forget-me-nots in our cottage style garden.
