FAQs about Meatballs

Here are the most popular questions when it comes to cooking this tasty treat.

Should I thaw meatballs before putting in crockpot?

If you are using raw ground meat as used in this recipe….. no. Don’t put frozen ground meat in the crockpot or slow cooker. The alternative to that is if you decide to use a bag of frozen meatballs that are already cooked that you purchased from the store. If using the cooked frozen kind, you can definitely throw those in and follow the rest of this recipe. The only difference is that your sauce will be slightly thinner and I would definitely cook on low at least 4 hours to make sure the meatballs are warm on the inside.

How long to cook pre cooked frozen meatballs in crockpot?

I referenced this in the question above in more detail. At least 4 hours.

What goes with BBQ meatballs?

Whatever you like! We love to have a starchy side and a vegetable. Typically with our meatballs, we like mashed potatoes or rice of some variation. Then we typically also add in a salad, green beans, or broccoli.

Is it safe to cook frozen meatballs in crockpot?

I went in more detail above in another question, but the answer is yes IF they are the pre-cooked version of meatballs sold at the grocery.

Do you thaw frozen meatballs before cooking?

See answers above about this but if they are the pre-cooked kind, simply follow this recipe as is, adding frozen meatballs into crockpot instead of raw ones.

YOU MIGHT NEED

If you watched the homemade meatball video tutorial, you noticed that there are very few ingredients and supplies needed for this simple recipe. I’m a definite minimalist when it comes to kitchen supplies.

I can’t tell you how many meals my larger-than-normal crockpot has served us but it’s a lot. I purposely wanted this bigger size. These adorable measuring cups and spoons (seen in the video) make me feel old-fashioned and cozy.
